Helo, I have a question regarding shared storage preparation for 11gR2 RAC. I am trying to gather all the info to configure 11gR2 RAC. The storage allocated for this is 300G. Our storage team presented me with one 200G lun and one 100G lun. I am not sure how these luns can be presented to asmlib? Can somebody please let me know? Thanks.

A LUN is identified in the host as a physical device (disk). You can either use the LUN as one disk or partition it. Each partition can be seen as an individual disk.
Find the existing disks ( LUNs ) with “fdisk -l”.
For RAC installation, we need to have three ASM disk groups one for OCR , one for DATA and one for FRA.
These ASM disk groups need min one ASM disk. So you need to create min three ASM disks.
As you are provided only with two LUNs one 200G and one 100G, You can devide 200G into two partitions using “fdisk”
Now you have three disks ( two from 200G and one from 100G).
Create three ASM disks using these three disks. And then you can create three ASM disk groups as mentioned above.

You can follow the following article to create partitions and prepare the ASM disks ……

You can follow this link to see the example setup how three LUNs are attached to disks ….

I have a question regarding 11gR1-RAC (this is one of the issue faced by our client few months ago) ->
they had a 2 node RAC setup where one of the node failed due to OS corruption (as told by them) due to which the oracle cluster services were not starting on the other working node. Hence ASM storage was not visible through ASMCMD utility.

Why it happened? Can you tell me how can I backup database in such scenarios and how can I make disks visible through ASMCMD? I am new to RAC on ASM.

What all precautions I need to take on 11gR2RAC?

Which is the best method to backup Database? (currently I am using rman without catalog)

    Thanks in advance.
